Part-Time Classes

The part-time classes at GLAFA offer the same core curriculum as the full-time program, but are taught in a less intensive format. Students begin with preliminary drawing exercises, and, if they choose to continue with the program long-term, progress to charcoal drawing from life and eventually to black and white and full-color still life oil painting. Critiques and instruction are individualized to accommodate each student, and classes are open to all, regardless of prior experience or skill level. Any student with the desire to learn and improve will find their efforts commensurately rewarded by an improved ability to realize their personal artistic goals. If taken to heart, the lessons learned in these classes will provide the building blocks to produce more advanced and creatively satisfying artworks.

We offer seminars and workshops, from time to time, featuring some of today’s best contemporary representational artists from around the world.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:

Eric Rauvola grew up wanting to be an artist all his life. He attempted going to college for art, but the program was not to his liking, and he ended up receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Writing before turning his focus to learning how to draw and paint. While trying to self-teach via books and internet tutorials, he eventually heard about a new atelier-style school, Great Lakes Academy of Fine Art, which was to be opening up in his hometown. He quickly reached out to the owner-instructors, Jeffrey and Brock Larson, and became one of their first accepted students. Eric graduated as part of GLAFA’s inaugural class in 2020, and was asked to stay on as a faculty member, providing instruction to students in both the full-time and part-time education programs. For the part-time program, he serves as Head Instructor and Program Coordinator.

Eric continues to live, work, and teach in his hometown of Duluth, Minnesota. He is represented by Collins Galleries in Cape Cod, MA.

Patrick Glander is a recent graduate of GLAFA and is now an assistant instructor at the school. He is a believer that a painter is eternally a student of nature and of the great artists of the past. He hopes to extend this reverence to students, guiding their learning. He is represented by Collins Galleries.
